Dr.Lajja Mohan Commemoration

late Dr. Lajjavati Man Mohan (nee Bhargava) (1918-1995) in the Kingston region.
Dr. Mohan lived a significant part of her life here in Kingston. Apart from touching the lives of many patients as a
family physician and a gynecologist, she was also a founding member (1979) and president (1986-87) of the
India-Canada Association of Kingston, a non‐profit community organization that supports social, cultural and
charitable community programs in Kingston.
Dr. Mohan was awarded a gold medal for an outstanding performance as a medical student at Lady Hardinge College, Delhi (1935). She was also awarded a silver medal in 1940 as an outstanding woman physician, by His Excellency Marquess of Linlithgow, Governor-General and Viceroy of India from 1936 to 1943. Dr. Mohan achieved this unique excellence in 1930s India as a progressive woman and medical physician, and made Kingston her home and place of service.
ICA Kingston is very proud of this heritage and dedicates this event to remember Dr. Lajja Mohan and her
contributions, and present her gold and silver medals to The Museum of Health Care, Kingston
